Started from the loose monochrome sketch in photoshop gradually going deeper and deeper in details each day, which finally took about 3 to 4 weeks to complete from the very beginning to this final composition. I really enjoy telling a story of events which already happened, was trying hard to depict overall mood and drama of the moment.

Brand New Reno

Hi everyone!

Well, I'm back into my tenderly loved "fallout" genre A few words about the painting. Did this for personal satisfaction and fun for about two weeks. The initial very rough sketch on paper was done while I was on the plane returning to my home country from New York city. So it was definitely NYC that inspired the initial sketch and composition. Due to my daytime freelance work I was able to work on this piece only at nights which regularly brought tonns of slippers thrown onto my poor head by my wife Another great thing that inspired me and kept me in the right "mode" are two iconic songs - legendary song by Ink Spots - "I don't want to set the world on fire" (1941) and Lois Armstrong's "Hello Dolly" (1965). I didn't use any photo references or photo footage but did use 3D throughout the composition. The biggest 3D element in the scene is the foreground "RENO" signboard (fully overpainted though).

In the "fallout" universe, New Reno setting is definitely one of the most impressive and dramatic places that the central character encounters on his quest. So I thought it would be fun to kind of improvise a little on the idea and concept of post-apoc New Reno and try to make a little "research" on the way it could look in real life. Hope you'll like it
And of course Comments and Crits are welcome!

This is the concept I've been thinking about for a very long time really. But for various reasons only now I was able to quench my "Need For Fallout" thirst Yes, I'm a huge fan of Fallout game and hence all of that post apocalyptic, you know, post nuclear stuff, which is extremely dear to my heart. So I thought it might be a good idea to draw something interesting that would express my love and passion for the sacred Title's philosophy I've been working on this for about 3 weeks (mostly erazing and correcting what was drawn previously) recalling good ol' times double clicking on fallout.exe and once again understanding that "war.. war never changes.."©

The City

Hi,

this is a city block which I've modelled for one my recent animation projects. Since I was the only guy working on this, the main challenge was to make fully 3D city fly-around for almost 4 or 5 days. The deadlines were pretty tight so I started to think of the easiest and the most painless possible way of achiving acceptable result for such a short amount of time. But after all of those second thughts I decided to model and texture everything from the scratch by myself though it didin't sound like a good idea since I didn't have to mimic the real setting very close and the client was aware of this. So I risked losing a couple of days taking photos of surrounding buildings and editing them in Photoshop for later use as textures on extremely low-poly geometry. Low polycount was crucial since there had to be an extremely high-detailed architectural building in the very center provided by the client (I removed it on this pic for legal purposes) The final render took about 3 days. When the crazy fuss with the client was over I decided to make a nice composition of this city and fine-tuned it a little further. Hope you like it

Watching The World

Well, nothing special to report, really Just wanted to draw something on the subject of Angels leaving among us, in the modern world, watching us, sometimes helping us and sometimes not. Who they are, who do the leave for - humans or gods, what are their goals, who knows. But they are definitely one of the most attractive and mysterious heroes of mythology. So I thought it would be a nice idea to portray one of them I hope you'll like him
I wasn't quite sure in which section to place this image - 2D or 3D as it's a mixture of matte painting (background city), 3D (which is approx. 60%) and 2D digital painting (the rest). So I posted in 3D section. Completion time: 1 week.

"cafe Of Broken Dreams"

Hi, this is my second post-apoc painting based on the Fallout© story. I was always interested in the way the famous "Cafe of Broken Dreams" along with the main Hero himself of course would really look like in real life. Here I tried to describe and portray one of the key moments of the Fallout Universe - a hard to overestimate moment of Chosen listening to somebody and may be already receiving guidelines for the the next "make-the-world-a-better-place" mission Dialogues in the Fallout Universe - are one of the basic crucial components that make the game so exciting, so working on this composition representing such significant element was fun and great responsibility at the same time. Of course, each can have hisher own interpretation of each episode or character, I only tried to describe things the way I see them and that's exactly what makes Fallout so exciting and unique - you can always "Build the NEW world you were waiting for. Results may vary..© (Quote from Fallout2 video intro)

Need For Freedom

Hi,

As you can see this work was inspired mostly by Pixar's "Cars" movie. So I thought why not try and make some texturing and rendering tests. One of the draft test renders wasn't looking that bad so I decided to go a little further with it. Taking into account that I made the car itself much earlier (which took 6 days to complete including texturing and rigging) I can say that I've completed the rest for only one or two days. The car's design is originally based on the design of Pontiac Le Mans GTO 1972 year of issue. I've just redesigned the back part of it to make it look more like retro cadillac.

The main idea was to show the moment of freedom. The moment of being really free of things like tight urban traffic, pollution, noisy and narrow streets so forth and so on. I hope you'll like my humble attempt to portray this very moment -) And of course any c&c's are always welcomed!

Freeman, Gordon Freeman

We’re often astonished by the way our famous actors and actresses look or try to look in real life. Most of them are completely different from the way they appeared in “that” movie or in “that” short film. So, I tried to imagine how Gordon Freeman would look like in “real” life. As all normal man in real world, Gordon may have it’s very own style after all. I think he deserved it
In scene: Lighting: FG, 3 point lights(area shadow) Grid with constant material on it, Textures: diffuse map, 2 mixed specular maps, bump map, 2 passes: general pass and DirtMap pass.
Everything, including initial modeling, texturing, shading and rendering was done in zBrush. Having exported image to Photoshop I fine tuned it adding hair and more details to facial structure.
Thanks to zbrush's official forum and people here on cgtalk for their help and nonstopping support. You are the best.
